What's so great about Twincest?

Twincest is a genre made of love.

Firstly, it should be noted that those who enjoy reading about twin brothers getting it on in fiction, do not necessarily advocate such behavior in the world they live in. In fact, if twins choose to be sexually intimate that is entirely their business. For us readers and writers of erotica, however, there is a lot of appeal in the idea.

Interesting Twincest Fact:
"An old Japanese myth says that if two star-crossed lovers commit dual suicide, they get reincarnated as twins. This may be one of the factors in the frequency of Twincest stories in anime."
- The TV Tropes Wiki

Here's what others have said about twincest's appeal:

What do I like about twincest? You know, I had to think really hard about that. What IS it, exactly, that turns my crank when I read about twin men in love? Here's my theory. I'm not a terribly open person. I have lots of friends who I love, sure, but there is not one single person in this world who knows everything about me. But that's exactly the sort of relationship I've always longed to have. I think what I like about twins in love is the fact that there is such a close bond there. Twins often have a very emotionally intimate relationship in the first place. Extending that to romantic love and sex makes it seem, to me, that the relationship becomes something of my own personal ideal: one person who knows, accepts and loves every single thing about you. No hiding, no secrets. I know that can happen (theoretically) outside of a sibling relationship, but who else can really know you since before birth?
- Ally Blue

"I think for me, it all comes down to their bond and the fact that they're so close. They can communicate with just a look, they've been together their entire lives and they know every last facet of each other. They've seen each other at their best and at their worst and they still love each other. There's no fear of 'Well, what if they stop loving me and leave me?' because that brotherly bond is never going to just disappear. I think it's just appealing, the way they can know each other so well and how they can be lovers but at the same time, they're best friends and they're not afraid to tell each other when one of them's being a jerk or whatever. They can be completely honest without worrying about consequences. There's never that pressure of 'I have to be perfect or they're going to lose interest in me.' So maybe there's some security in that, but like I said, it all comes down to the fact that they know each other better than anyone else could ever know them, and that makes for a very strong relationship."
- C. Scott, GA

Interesting Twincest Fact:
"In Mohave culture, opposite-sex twins were thought to have been married in heaven."
- Wikipedia

"As for de-taboo-ize-ing the kink, well I guess all I have to say on that is when there is a love so deep, such as Malik and Ciaran's, and you're a part of one another, while your soul is almost entrapped in the other's mind and body, then it's meant to be. Besides it's not like they can get pregnant, so incestual babies won't be born. It'd be different maybe if pregnancy could come into play, maybe.

The fact that there is an established connection that you feel and understand from the beginning of their story, that's what makes twincest acceptable in my mind."
- Molly, PA

Twin Odds:
"The incidence of twin types and genders are oddly symmetrical. One third of all twins born are identical, one third are same sex fraternal, and one third are male/female fraternal....Of the same sex fraternal, half are male/male, and half are female/female."
- BabyMed

"While I agree with everything C. Scott says so eloquently, I have to add though, that for me, the love and the angst, especially the angst, is hopped up more than in any other type of relationship. Not being a twin, I don't know anything about the bond there is between two siblings that have shared the womb; although we may romanticize it, I'm sure it's stronger than any other bond, even between parent and child. There must be a sense of complete safety and confidence in knowing there is someone else in the world who knows everything about you and loves you still. On the other hand, when we get into the sexual relationship, that's when the angst comes in. (And without angst, there is no story. It's just fluff.) Bringing in the cultural taboos against a sexual relationship between siblings, and worse, two brothers (gay! omg!) who have to hide their 'wrongful' love from everyone or be ostracized from society (or worse)... Dude. Dat shit be good! Especially if the brothers are hot, and the mansex is rough, and they fight a lot. Uuuurgh... "
- P. Priscilla, CA

Almost Twincest in Pop Culture:
Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia enjoy a budding romantic relationship in the first two Star Wars movies until they learn they're actually twins!
